Play Away: Cowboys Golf Club, Dallas

While other golf courses were busying themselves the last few years with things like bankruptcy and deferred maintenance, Cowboys Golf Club did something typically Cowboys: it continued to win fans. Now ten years old, architect Jeff Brauer’s design feels timeless and inspired, a heavily forested parkland routing that you’d swear was anywhere but Dallas. With its lush fairways, soft greens, fingered bunkers that look like giant sea creatures and Cowboys paraphernalia, you are reminded of the Hill Country, northern Michigan and a football shrine. All at once. Yes, a round at Cowboys will cost you dearly. But with all food and nonalcoholic beverages included, it’s still the best public golf outing in Dallas. (Don’t skip the grilled jalepeno sausages served. near the halfway mark.)
